Wayne County Lightfest Kicks Off This November

The annual drive-thru holiday light display will open on Nov. 21, 2024. It will remain open through Dec. 24.

Wayne County Parks is kicking off the 2024 holiday season with three days of events that culminate in the start of the 31st annual on Nov. 21, 2024.

These events kick off at 7 p.m. on Nov. 19 with the Bike Through The Lights event. Participants of this event are among the first to see this year鈥檚 light displays as they bike to the Warrendale Picnic Area and back.

Registration for Bike Through The Lights runs $30-$40 for adults and $20-$30 for kids. Online registration ends on Nov. 10, but in-person registration runs through Nov. 15. The first 500 registered participants will receive a Lightfest hat, bike light, and post-event snacks.

Those who prefer running to biking can sign up for the 8K Fun Run/Walk, which happens on 7 p.m. on Nov. 20. The run starts at Merriman Hollow Park in Westland and finishes at Warrendale Park in Dearborn Heights.

The Lightfest Run/Walk costs $35-$40 for adults and $25-$35 for kids. Online registration ends on Nov. 15. In-person registration is Nov. 18 and 20. The first 1,000 registered participants of this event receive a Lightfest hat, finishers medal, post-event snacks, and a ride back to your car.

Wayne County Lightfest officially opens with the 鈥淟ights On鈥 ceremony at 6 p.m. on Nov. 21. This free event will feature refreshments, musical entertainment, fireworks, and a visit from Santa and Mrs. Claus, all leading up to the tradition 鈥渇lip of the switch.鈥

This year鈥檚 drive-thru event will feature five miles of breathtaking displays filled with hundreds of thousands of multi-colored lights, including 50 animated displays.听It also offers a special Toy Nights where visitors can donate a new, unwrapped toy instead of paying admission. Those nights are Nov. 27, Dec. 4, and Dec. 11.

And, new for 2024, Wayne County Lightfest will offer an expanded food truck area at Perrin Park, halfway through the show, along with visits with Santa at Perrin Park Dec. 11 and 18 from 6:30-8:30 p.m., special reindeer nights Nov. 27 and Dec. 4 from 6:30-8:30 p.m., and a walk-through gift box for selfies and other photo ops.

Santa will also have a mailbox set up for kids to drop off their letters.

Wanye County Lightfest is open 6-10 p.m. Wednesdays through Sundays, Nov. 21-Dec. 24, 2024, including Christmas Eve and the Monday before it. The entrance is located on Merriman Road, between Ann Arbor Trail and Warren Ave., with displays along Hines Drive from Ann Arbor Trail to Outer Drive. Admission for regular size cars is $5 (cash only). Commercial vans, mini-buses, and standard buses will run $20, $25, and $50 (cash only), respectively.
